Belly Casting Workshops Midwives, Doulas, Child Birth Educators & Womens Health Groups
Belly casting workshops create a relaxed learning environment for health providers to pass on their message about the birthing process, parenting, baby care and the importance of breastfeeding. The creative process of making a belly cast can provide a bridge to communicate important information and provide an opportunity for nutritionists, dental health experts and midwives to talk to and engage with teen and indigenous pregnant mums. Belly cast Workshops also encourage young mothers to make regular contact with midwives. The antenatal visits become a positive occasion. Participants become better educated about pre and post natal care and are able to share the important health messages with their peers. DID YOU KNOW? Research has shown that belly casting Indigenous* and 'at risk' pregnant teens can actually raise the birth weights of their unborn babies. Combining belly casting as an incentive with regular visits to antenatal support groups based on the Mubali project** resulted in a 50% increase in attendance of 15-21yo to antenatal care and 80% of the mothers to be initiated breastfeeding, many of whom continued for 6-12 mths.
Eventually we would like to offer this service FREE to the groups that assist 'at risk' pregnant women & girls. Until then we need support from the community and businesses. So if you can Donate today*** or sponsor a project to help us get this project up off the ground
